This looks like the boyfriend bands we used to make from gum wrappers when I was on high school on the late 60s. You were supposed to make it the height of your boyfriend. What a surprise!

Ooh, I remember those! High school was a little later for me (1979 graduate), but we still made those! This looks like a fun way to embellish those hard-to-cover edges!
