Do you also have a written version of the directions? Thanks

    • The Ornament Girl on August 15, 2016 at 4:54 pm

Susan, this is pretty much the same pattern as the May ornament kit was, so if you were here during May, you’ve got that. I also do sell a Basic Pattern eBook on my website, but again, if you’ve got May, you are covered. 🙂

      • Jennifer Young on November 27, 2016 at 2:01 am

        Hello,

I was looking for the basic pattern ebook but was unable to find it – can you please send me the link?

Hi Estella, do you happen to be on our waiting list? You can join that here: https://ornamentgirls.club and we’ll email you when we have club openings. Thanks! Have a great day, Janelle

I was wondering the same thing bcuz I am having so much trouble trying to keep up with the video

    • Sheryel Devlin on October 23, 2023 at 11:39 pm

What type of styrofoam ball do
You use. Will expanded styrofoam work
      On your craft projects.
      Thank you

  2. Sharon McKinney on August 14, 2016 at 10:37 pm

Did I miss you trimming the first side? I got interrupted but thought I went back and watched it all. Or did it come out to be exactly on the halfway mark? And if it did, how did you do that?

    • The Ornament Girl on August 15, 2016 at 4:52 pm

Sharon, I never trim the first side. Even if it goes over the halfway mark, I do not trim. I simply overlap the first side with the second side if needed. So to answer your question, nope, you didn’t miss it! 🙂

  3. Grace Meyers on August 15, 2016 at 4:04 pm

Marvelous video! Very clear! You’re such a gem. Thanks for thinking of us and helping us with these ornaments. Your commitment is obvious. Beautiful ornament and crystal clear demo.!

    • The Ornament Girl on August 15, 2016 at 10:55 pm

Thank you, Grace! I’m really glad you found it helpful! 🙂

  4. TRACY HEMING on August 15, 2016 at 4:31 pm

Great video, Staci. Directions were very clear and easy to follow. Thank you for providing a video series for the group – very helpful. 🙂

Glad you found it helpful, Tracy! Thanks for watching. 🙂

  5. Deborah Faulkenberry on August 16, 2016 at 5:15 am

Thank you for such a clear and informative video Staci. You make it look so easy but I am sure that you could make an ornament blind folded! You give encouragement to the newbies as well as inspiration to those that probably can also do this blind folded..
Also, I am very grateful that you have created this group and feel lucky to be a part of it. There are so many talented ladies in this group. They are supportive and inspiring. You are indeed a shining gem among a collection of shining jewels!

    • The Ornament Girl on August 17, 2016 at 5:35 pm

Deborah, thank you so much. That means so much to me. I am so glad you are a part of the group! <3

    • Shirley Brunner on June 19, 2022 at 5:16 am

I add a huge ditto to each point you made in your post Deborah. . When I was a newbie I thought I could never learn all of the folds etc. But you know what?? I have a box full of ornaments that I can look at and remind myself that hey I did it. Sometimes I have to put it down thinking that this one has won I may not get this fold right. But after allowing myself the time to let my mind rest and go back and try again and boom. I didn’t let it win! The main thing that helps is all of your great points about how great these gals are at teaching, supporting and inspiring every newbie that joins our great community. Thanks to you Staci and kall of you gals that makes it possible for us to learn and love each ornament we complete!

  6. Cindy Brasier on September 2, 2016 at 7:18 pm

Oh my gosh!….I just joined yesterday. I have been watching these first 2 videos, and am so impressed with them. You make them look so easy and amazing. The way that you explain how to do it, is amazing and so clear to understand.. I can’t wait to get my first kit!!!! Your very informative on what to do and make it look so easy. I loved the little quirks of the cricket or what ever that little bugger was… I will definitely keep watching the other videos you have. LOVE THEM!!!

    • The Ornament Girl on September 2, 2016 at 9:53 pm

Yay! Thanks Cindy! It’s so awesome to hear how excited you are! I can’t wait for you to get started. Have fun, and remember that me and the other OGs are here to help if you ever need it! 🙂 Welcome to our club!

  7. Libby Mahaffey-Haytas on September 4, 2016 at 9:36 pm

Just watched the video. I have 6 or 7 kits and was kind of intimidated, afraid to start….after watching the video I feel confident and will do one this week. THANK YOU.

    • The Ornament Girl on September 5, 2016 at 9:02 pm

Yay, that’s great! I’m glad it helped! Let us know how your ornament comes out. 🙂

  8. Carole M Thompson on September 12, 2016 at 12:08 am

I thought I was so careful with lining up all the pieces. But when the middle band was put on, I was disappointed with the imperfect result. However I loved doing it and who will notice the imperfections?

    • The Ornament Girl on September 14, 2016 at 1:36 pm

I am sure that no one will notice any imperfections (we are always our own worst critics!), but these get easier and easier to perfect with each one you make, I promise! I am glad you enjoyed making it – that ‘s the most important part! 🙂

      • Donna Augustine on March 18, 2021 at 4:44 am

I’m pleased! After listening to you strongly advising to check the lines, after the third layer, I understood, I had the most lopsided star, ever. Took it apart, watched every line, and it’s not bad for a first effort. On to the 3rd video, so I can be ready for Friday! Your instructions are super clear and and I can’t wait to become an OG!

        • Janelle - Ornament Girls Club on March 18, 2021 at 5:36 pm

You’re so kind! I’m so happy the video instructions were so helpful! And we look forward to you joining us at our next opening. YAY!

  9. gwen stewart on September 15, 2016 at 12:45 am

I wasn’t a member in may, is there somewhere where I can get measurements for the cloth? The look rectangle and not square as the ones in this month. wanted to try my hand at it. I’m retired so I have all day to do them! 🙂

    • The Ornament Girl on September 15, 2016 at 4:55 pm

Hi Gwen! Yes, they are rectangle, and the measurement for them is 2″ x 3″ each… and then also, there is a long band that goes around the whole thing to finish it, and that piece is about 2 1/2″ by 10 1/2″. I hope that helps! Have fun making them! 🙂

  10. Jackie Herring on September 16, 2016 at 4:18 am

Staci this video is wonderful. I just learned
that I do not have to fold each triangle before
I place it on the ball. I am so excited! Thanks
again for all you do. You my friend are a special
    Lady.
    Blessings always,
    Jackie

    • The Ornament Girl on September 16, 2016 at 11:21 pm

Yay! I’m so glad this helped you – thank you so much, Jackie! 🙂

  11. Mary Jane on October 10, 2016 at 5:45 pm

I am so inspired by the two videos for making this pattern! I just joined OG this month (October 2016), and I have completed one ornament (the pine cone pattern). I am so looking forward to trying out this Quilted Star Pattern too. Thank you so much for taking the time to share these two videos with us, they are exceptionally well done, and very easy to understand.

    HUGS,
    Mary Jane

    • The Ornament Girl on October 10, 2016 at 9:06 pm

Thank you so much, Mary Jane – I am so happy this was helpful to you!! 🙂 I have more videos on the way! Please let me know how your first Star ornament comes out!

  12. Donna Hicks on November 19, 2016 at 4:18 pm

Tracy, I am so thrilled to be able to watch you do this. I have struggled so long on being able to get it right, I think now I can do it. The tips were so very helpful. I love it.. Thank you so much

    • The Ornament Girl on November 21, 2016 at 7:40 pm

I’m SO glad to hear that Donna. 🙂

  13. Susan Lunzman on December 2, 2016 at 3:11 am

So is it 2 inches long by 3 inches wide or vise versa? Help I am confused

    • The Ornament Girl on December 2, 2016 at 3:16 pm

Hi Susan – The size is 3″ x 2″ rectangles, and when you place on the ball, you fold the top edge down lengthwise.- so the fold will be across the 3″ side of the fabric piece. I hope that helps.

  14. Janet LeDoux on March 1, 2017 at 10:18 pm

Thank you very much for the video. It really cleared up a few questions I had. Your ornaments are very beautiful. I am looking forward to making many more of them.

    • The Ornament Girl on March 20, 2017 at 1:54 pm

      Oh, that’s great! 🙂

  15. Mary Wall on May 18, 2017 at 6:08 pm

Does it matter whether you fold from left to right or right to left?

    • StaciAnn Lowry on May 30, 2017 at 3:06 pm

      Mary, it sure doesn’t. 🙂

  16. Jan Benner on June 16, 2017 at 7:24 pm

Since I got started making these ornaments, either I missed some facts or you have tweaked you directions a little. Are you now using 2×3 piece on all of your ornaments? Without glue or something, what keeps the center band in place? Do you ever stitch the band together?
I’m just an old time crafter and seamstress asking.
    Jan

    • StaciAnn Lowry on June 19, 2017 at 3:17 pm

Hi Jan… Yes, I have DEFINITELY tweaked my directions over the years. 🙂

(Over time, I’ve tried to include more info based on questions I’ve received, new ideas, etc.).

I use around 2 x 3″ for MOST ornaments, but not all. Some of the patterns use different sizes. And, you can even go smaller than 2 x 3″. I include 2 x 3″ in the kits to make sure they are big enough for everyone to work with, but you can get away with using smaller scraps if that’s what you’ve got on hand, or want to get more pieces out of your stash.

No, I don’t stitch my bands in place, and I rarely use glue. They usually stay just fine. I know that some people like to add pearl pins around the band, for both decoration and for extra security. But, I have not found that it’s necessary. If you’ve pulled the band around firmly, it will stay just fine.

      I hope that helps!

  17. Belinda Morro on September 29, 2017 at 10:38 pm

Thank you – great video! Love your easy flow throughout the video and the tips you provided. Can’t wait to have a try.

You mentioned that with bigger or smaller balls you will have to play around with the dimensions of the fabric – do you have a formula guide for going larger or smaller?

Once again, so thankful for your video.

    Belinda
    Adelaide, South Australia

    • StaciAnn Lowry on September 30, 2017 at 3:49 pm

Belinda… this is nothing that is set in stone (meaning you can definitely deviate from this), but generally, you can increase/decrease the length of your rectangle to match the diameter in inches.. so for example, if you use a 4” ball, you can increase the size of your rectangles a little bit (about 4” x 3” each instead of the 2 x 3″ I showed in the video),

      You can also:

1.) Add a layer less or more (depending on whether you are going smaller or bigger), or…
2.) Change the spacing between layers to larger or more narrow.

      I hope that helps 🙂

        Thank you

    • Janet Heffernan on October 1, 2017 at 1:15 am

Looking forward to seeing design with cardinals. Have done many balls but not using this technique. This one looks much easier and certainly more exact. Cardinals are the mascot at our high school so I am certain our seniors group will enjoy this technique. All we need now is the appropriate fabric. Good thing we have a great JoAnn Fabrics very close.

  18. Edith on September 30, 2017 at 4:27 am

Thank you so much for this video. It is so much clearer than than others I have seen first I was taught to fold all way down instead of 1/4 inch now I see what my problem was in how it looked. Your way is so much easier can’t wait to get materials and get started in Christmas…..thanks again especially taking your time and offering this for free

    • StaciAnn Lowry on September 30, 2017 at 3:50 pm

I’m so happy you liked this, Edith, thank you so much 🙂

  19. Donna Carruthers on September 30, 2017 at 12:20 pm

Thank you so much for giving of your time to make this video series for us. I have “collected” a few months worth of patterns; however, after watching your detailed instructions I feel like I really could make this ornament!! I appreciate offering it for free, so we can gain the confidence we need to make these lovely ornaments.

I am wondering how do you cut your pieces of fabric so perfectly straight with square corners? Do you have a secret way of cutting them? I’m not sure I can get all the edges as straight as your pieces are in the video!!!

    • Eileen Emberger on September 30, 2017 at 3:10 pm

I bet she uses a rotary cutter and ruler like fabric is cut in quilting. that is what I am going to do.

    • StaciAnn Lowry on September 30, 2017 at 3:54 pm

Donna I am so glad you found this helpful! I hope you will definitely give it a try! Yes, I do use a rotary cutter and mat these days, as Eileen suggested. I used to scissor-cut though! 🙂

But, please do not feel that all your fabric edges need to be perfect and straight before you start. They definitely don’t need to be. In fact, once you get used to the technique, you can use all sorts of odd & imperfect pieces (this is why these are so great to use for scraps!)

      I hope that helps 🙂

  20. Marian on September 30, 2017 at 1:17 pm

Thank you so much for this informative, free video. I have made these before and could never get them to come out even, so now with all these tips, I can’t wait to try another one. As previous comment said, I was taught to fold completely in half, so doing it your way should really make a difference. Thanks again.

    • StaciAnn Lowry on September 30, 2017 at 8:31 pm

I’m so glad you liked it. Please let me know if it helps when you try your next one!

  21. Valerie on September 30, 2017 at 1:27 pm

  26. Nancy Webb on September 30, 2017 at 2:40 pm

This is the best instruction video I have seen for folded fabric ornaments. I started making some in Dec. 2016 but none are as precise as yours. I will follow your instruction from now on so all my ornaments are as even as possible. Thank you very much.
    Sincerely, Nancy

Just watched the video and really feel inspired to make these. I have always thought this type of ornament was beautiful. I am 86 yrs. and sewed since I was 15. I am crafty, taught classes for years but just haven’t ever made these. I will now. Many thanks for the wonderful and informative tutorial.

Can’t get the video to start. I wait and wait, and then it tells me I need something else to make it run, and then the timer keeps ticking down (slowly), but still no video. Yesterday’s worked easily. What gives?

    • Nancy Meadows on December 14, 2019 at 1:02 am

I’m having a hard time getting the video to play 😭

  30. Kim on September 30, 2017 at 3:45 pm

Thank you for doing such a nice video. Very thorough.

  31. Kandy Crowe on September 30, 2017 at 3:51 pm

Internet Explorer Security sends me a warning. I tap “Allow”. Still can’t get it to run. Managed to Save but still won’t open. Ideas?

    • StaciAnn Lowry on September 30, 2017 at 3:57 pm

Kandy, do you have any other browser besides Internet Explorer? Such as Chrome or Firefox? I have tried to make the video playable across all platforms and browsers, but unfortunately, Internet Explorer is that ‘one’ browser that really puts up a fight. Chrome is the one I recommend most, but Firefox is a pretty good one, too. If not, you can also try clearing your history in IE. Sometimes that will work to give it a ‘restart’.

      • Kandy Crowe on September 30, 2017 at 8:00 pm

I finally hit enough buttons, and the video started. Don’t know what I did, but I will check out the Chrome. Thanks. I now have a ball with a band! Looking forward to tomorrow.

        • StaciAnn Lowry on September 30, 2017 at 8:28 pm

Oh good! I’m so glad it started working for you. Internet Explorer can be really difficult sometimes. If you check out Chrome, I think you will like it. It’s very quick, and does great with online video. (It’s great for web security too!). Really glad you got it to play, and hope it’s helpful 🙂

  32. Nancy L Webb on September 30, 2017 at 4:11 pm

Can I use a jelly roll? If so do I need to trim 1/2 inch off the side? Awesome video. Thank you very much for the details, vert well presented.

I can’t wait to get started…again..you are a super teacher, thank you!

  34. Carla on September 30, 2017 at 6:46 pm

Your videos are done wonderfully. I was wondering why the fittest measurements in row 3? Can you use the same measurement for distance in that row? I learned to make these using a different method but really like yours, which I think is much more efficient. Just wondering about the difference in row 3. Thank you!

  35. Carla on September 30, 2017 at 6:47 pm

It should say why the different measurements in row 3.

    • StaciAnn Lowry on September 30, 2017 at 8:25 pm

Hi Carla…So glad you like the videos so far. I tell why I do them differently right at minute 18:04, just briefly. I just simply like more of those 4 pieces to show, and I like how it looks that way. But you could of course make all 8 of that layer the same distance. None of these measurements are set in stone, and I would definitely encourage you to experiment. 🙂

  36. Irene Schofield on September 30, 2017 at 7:51 pm

Love the videos – I can finally (maybe) get my pattern centered. You make it look so easy. Do you adjust the size of the fabric block when doing a smaller or larger size ball? Is it always the 2-1/2 x 3 size?

Also, would you consider (when you have time) doing a video for the ornament tree?

    Thanks again.

  37. Cindy Bolt on September 30, 2017 at 7:55 pm

Great video Staci Ann! I loved the detailed instructions. I can’t wait for video #3.

  38. Becky Minemier on September 30, 2017 at 8:02 pm

You are a great teacher, Staci!! I learned that method of matching up the second side of the ornament from you before and it works every time! Thank you so much for taking the time to create this video and for sharing your talent with others! Another fabulous video!!! I hope to see many viewers in the OG Club in the near future. It’s so much fun!!!

I love watching you work! I learned so much. You make it easy to learn. Being a quilter I know how important it is to keep all the piecing in a straight line.
I am so impressed with this video I can see a quilt pattern I did long ago shining through your work. You have taken something that would take hours to complete
and made it so beautiful I just have to learn more. I would be sewing for days to make a quilt with this star pattern.
SO! That being said I am a convert! I can enjoy a form of my favorite hobby in a short amount of time thanks to your beautiful work.
I think you got me hooked!
Thanks so much for making a very good video and sharing it. I will be signing up for this program.

Thank you. I have made these before but now realize the importance of spacing and alignment. I can see it makes a big difference. Will we have access to the videos once the workshop is completed? I would like to be able to go back and refer to them for awhile in case I run into trouble or have questions once I start making them.

Thank you for the video Staci. I have made quite a few of these ornaments and for someone just starting, your video will certainly teach them how to do them from beginning to end. I picked up a few hints from your video myself. Thanks again.

Thank you so much Staci Ann!!! Up until now I have tried so many times to get this and, had to put it away til I felt to challenge my self again. But with these videos, they inspired me to try again. Thank so much!!

  64. Joyce on October 2, 2017 at 2:28 pm

I know you didn’t put your ball down very much, but I have arthritis and have to lay my ball down quite a bit to pick up fabric or pins and I stumbled upon using the top part of a two part canning lid fits the bill. It keeps the ball from rolling around. Thank you so much for this video.

    • StaciAnn Lowry on October 2, 2017 at 2:36 pm

That’s an awesome idea! Thank you for sharing!

  65. Ellen on October 2, 2017 at 4:26 pm

When I put my band around the middle, I fold the raw edges down when I get the band all the way around the middle. That way, NO RAW EDGES are showing. Also, as I fold the band to put it on the ball, I make the folds all the way down the band and pin them in about three places. Then as I put the band around the middle, I don’t have to worry about doing the folding as I go. Makes it easier to get the band folded the same width all the way around the ball.

Great video for beginners! I can’t say I’ve learned any new tips since I’ve made so many over the last 10 years, but I sure wish I’d had the video when I was first starting out. I pulled apart my fabric so many times trying to get my lines straight! I also mark my center on the bottom a little differently. I actually put a pin over one of the imprints on the ball and take my tape measure and measure around the diameter of the ball and put a mark at 4 5/8 inches on the bottom side. This gives me the center without making the ink pen marks on the ball.

  66. Judy hejza on October 2, 2017 at 10:14 pm

Loved it! I’ve made the ornament many times but not exact! Loved it!

  67. Sharyl Holcomb on October 2, 2017 at 10:29 pm

Staci, Your expertise with the pins astounds me…maybe practice will make better for me. I really appreciated the video. Thanks for all the work you put in to keeping us “girls” having fun!

  68. Ruth Ann Piper on October 3, 2017 at 2:15 am

I am so glad I signed up to see your workshops. I actually have made ornaments but with slightly different instructions. I’ve been using 2 1/2″ fabric squares and putting the pin inside in the center. My pins sometimes work their way through the fabric so I am going to start using your method. I also liked your method of finding the center of the 2nd half. I usually eyeball it and my ornaments usually come out wonky. Thank you so much!

    • Donna on December 7, 2017 at 6:24 am

I also learned the method you spoke of here. My squares are all 2 1/4” though. And I have thousands cut to be 2 1/4” !! I am going to try folding them the way she has on her video and see how my size works doing it that way. I have so many already cut in so many different fabrics, that I have no choice by to use them. But I will definitely try her way. And cut future ones her size for sure!
I also love the way she found the center for the second side…also not the way I was taught. This is much better.
I have an embroidery machine and put the date and name on them. Which of course changes the way you start off. Have sold lots over the years. I’m addicted to making these ornaments!! 😁

  69. Reta on October 3, 2017 at 2:24 pm

I have made lots of ornaments and I love your method! I like that it is less fabric, so less bulk! Great video, very well done. Thank you!

  80. Tracey Anderson on October 16, 2017 at 4:04 pm

    Hi Staci An
Unfortunately I already have an opened stash of the smooth foam balls that you DON’T recommend on video one. I hate the fact that they have a deep circular hole on one of the sides. Do you have a suggestion of how to work around this whole?

    • StaciAnn Lowry on October 16, 2017 at 6:35 pm

Tracey… I’ve seen a few people in our group say they were able to fill in the hole with something… but I have done in the past, is just not use those two imprints/holes as your starting points for each half… instead, I would start each side of the ornament on the line (around the circumference) somewhere. That way, when you wrap the band around the ornament at the end, you’ll just cover it, and you won’t necessarily have to stick any pins into it. Now, if you DO find you’re pinning where that hole is at some point.. just move the pin a little bit to avoid it. Did that make sense?

  81. Cynthia on October 21, 2017 at 4:57 pm

I went to an ornament class this time last year, doing virtuslly the same thing. Only yours is much better – for several reasons. 1. We used 2” x 2” squares folded in half (a LOT of material to pin through), 2. We used a 2” cardboard template with a pin hole in the center go find/pin exact center of fabric square (your folding a little bit is much less time consuming), 3. Doing the snipping of excess fabric “before” the last layer is much better than waiting until after the last layer.
I’d made a couple already, but will use your method for making more! Thanks!!

Staci–love the video–but i had ordered the folded christmas flower ornament–kept thinking that you would do the variation toward the end of this video, but no, was not–even went back to check my paypal, and yes, the easy folded christmas flower was the one pattern that I had ordered. Will that be in the 3rd video or will i have to purchase something extra?? thank you!—was really hoping to have this pattern so that i can take a completed ornament to quilt club next week!

I would like to know what size rectangle fabric to cut for a 2.5″ ball. Thank you for such a wonderful video on how to get both sides perfect. You are a great teacher and the video is super good. Thank you for the info, if possible.

    • StaciAnn Lowry on November 16, 2017 at 8:59 pm

Thank, Maria, I’m so glad you liked the video. 🙂 For a 2.5″ ball, you could use the same 2 x 3 rectangles, since the difference in ball size wouldn’t be huge. You can adjust by placing your layers slightly closer together. But, you could also get away with using pieces just slightly smaller… maybe trim 1/8″ to 1/4″ from the rectangles. I hope that helps 🙂

I’ve made several ornaments and have been satisfied with them but your way seems to be a bit easier. I like that you don’t have to find the center of each piece of fabric and that you overlap a bit when you fold it down. I am definitely going to try this. Maybe tomorrow! Haha! Thanks for the free video !

    Hi,

    Great videos. Very informative.

Is there a technique that you use to cut all of the fabric neatly or do you cut each square individually by hand with your scissors?

    Thank you,

    Jennie

    • StaciAnn Lowry on October 2, 2018 at 4:44 pm

Hi Jennie… great question! I used to cut them all with scissors. Now though, I use a quilting mat, rotary cutter, and quilting ruler. It makes it so much faster and neater, and is great for cutting up enough fabric for multiple ornaments. 🙂

Thank you for the videos. I do have a couple of questions. I am having a hard time getting the pins at the points not to show. I am putting the pin right close to the folded edge. Am I doing something wrong? Also, I got some of the smooth balls and I don’t know if there is a difference between other ones, but they are so hard to get the pins into. I don’t know if my fingers will last. I am using dressmaker pins size 17 nickle plated steel.

    • StaciAnn Lowry on October 8, 2018 at 1:51 pm

Bobbi Jo, it sounds like you might have bought the ‘SmoothFoam’ brand of foam balls. There are several brands of smooth foam, but this one is actually branded “SmoothFoam” – and they are HARD. I actually don’t buy them because of how hard they are to push pins into, but you can use a thimble to help you until you use those up, and that will help. For future reference, I recommend either the ones from LaCrafts.com or the ones I sell in my shop, which are extra soft.

For the visible pins… try moving them away from the edge of your fabric just a TINY bit more. If they are showing, you might have them too close to the edge. You won’t have to move them much. Literally just a hair away from where you are placing them now should do the trick. 🙂

      I hope that helps!

I wanted to know about using 2 7/8 inch ball because we cannot get 3 inch balls here. We do not have the smooth balls either. How do I measure the material, and how do I not waste material. Would 3×2 inch material work for a 2 7/8 ball? Thank you. I am really excited about doing these. I am excited about putting pictures on and also using my husband’s shirts to make the ornaments. He died a year ago, and I wanted to do something for our children.

I haven’t read any of the previous comments, but I wanted to share that the quality of the video seems to deteriorate about half-way through; the video keeps stopping every 5-10 seconds to buffer, and the interruptions are taking away some of your voice. Any suggestions? Diane

  132. Robin Lynn Titus on December 24, 2018 at 8:30 pm

I was in the process of moving and just last night had the opportunity to watch the first two videos. I ran to the store – Christmas Eve eve – and found everything I needed. I have completed 2/3rds of this first pattern and I can tell you – I AM HOOKED! Your videos are perfect and so easy to follow. I can’t wait to advance through the other videos. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent. I love your story.

thanks so much for accepting me to watch your tutorials…I just love it…I’ve tried following other ones but found it very hard…I can’t wait to try one using your amazing tips

  135. Margie Veuleman on April 15, 2019 at 8:19 pm

I didn’t think it possible, and I’m SO excited – a little frustrated that my band seems to kinda gather on the bottom side, but the top looks good. I must have made too large spaces in between layers, for mine overlapped at the center round (where we placed the band). It took me several sittings to find the time to pay close attention, but I’m SO thankful for your great lesson and look forward to #3.

    • StaciAnn Lowry on April 17, 2019 at 11:50 am

yay Margie! I am so happy to hear this! Thank you so much for taking this workshop. I am SO glad you found it helpful. The band will get easier, I promise (probably with your very next one!). Please let me know if you come up with any questions that I might be able to help with!

  136. Donna Kovacs on April 19, 2019 at 12:56 am

This was great. So helpful with all the little trips you gave us. I love the outcome. I have tried other methods and yours is by far the best looking. The only “problem” I have I cannot always remember the measurements of each ornament. I have quite a few of them now and if I end up doing it by memory they all end up looking the same. Do you have a quick cheat sheet for each ornament that I can refer to instead of going through the whole tutorial every time I make one. Thank you so much. Donamkovacs@yahoo.com

    • Terrie on December 10, 2019 at 1:55 pm

Thank you Stacey. You are a jewel. I was wondering if there is a certain density of your smooth foam ball? I bought a bulk of them and mine are very hard to put a pin in. I have to use a different object to push them in. It looks like yours are very easy to put pins in. Again thank you for all you do and your help.

      • StaciAnn Lowry on December 15, 2019 at 7:13 pm

Hi Terrie… it sounds like you may have bought a particular brand called ‘SmoothFoam’ which are smooth of course, but VERY dense. They are good for many other projects but not these, unfortunately! You’ll want to find a less dense brand that will be much easier on your fingers.

  137. Rita on December 20, 2019 at 1:06 pm

I’m really late joining in but can’t wait to get started! Only hope mine look half as good as yours.
Thank you for making this available.
    Merry Christmas

    • StaciAnn Lowry on December 21, 2019 at 5:08 am

I hope you enjoy making them Rita! Let me know if I can help with anything! 🙂

  138. Gail on December 22, 2019 at 3:46 pm

I bought an ornament several years ago out in B.C. Canada. There was an embroidered cross-stitch design as the centre layer. What patterns do you have that would allow this type of insert on the first layer? I’m just floored at your designs.

Also, I’m not sure if you are the designer or not, but is there a patriotic USA ornament pattern? I’d like to do one for my PA friend.
    Thanks.

This was mesmerizing to watch, what an awesome, straightforward, easy to follow video! I don’t know when I may get a chance to actually try it out, but I know exactly where to go when I do! Thanks for sharing and inspiring! 🤗

    • StaciAnn Lowry on January 20, 2020 at 7:28 pm

Thank you so much, Marcia! I really appreciate that, and I hope you will give it a try soon, and let us know how it comes out!

  140. Harriett on April 8, 2020 at 11:59 am

Hi StaciAnn, I want to thank you so much for video 1 and 2. I watched yesterday and this morning. Can’t wait for video 3. You explain everything so complete and I can’t wait to start my ornament. They look like so much fun! Thanks again!

    • Janelle Taliercio on April 10, 2020 at 10:28 pm

Hi Harriett, oh, you’re so welcome! It is our pleasure to offer this workshop to you! Have you received video 3 by now? If not, do let me know. And happy ornamenting!

  141. Gail F on April 14, 2020 at 2:15 pm

This video is amazing. You explain it in simple easy to understand terms and you go step by step. The end product is just gorgeous! I am so excited! I will be doing these beginning today to help use my time during “social distancing” time. Fortunately, I have plenty of sewing scraps and pins available.

    • Janelle Taliercio on April 15, 2020 at 6:48 pm

Hi Gail, your comment made our day. Seriously, so sweet! Thank you so much for your feedback and I’m so thrilled you are enjoying watching the videos. I can’t wait to hear how your first ornament goes. And if you run into any questions along the way, you’re most welcome to let us know so we can help. Happy ornamenting! Janelle

  142. Marilyn Francis on September 2, 2020 at 11:15 pm

Loved the videos. One question, How wide should the band that goes around the ball be after it is folded? Thank you

    • Janelle Taliercio on September 4, 2020 at 8:18 pm

Hi Marilyn, thanks so much! And to answer your question, in general, it’s about 3/4 of an inch but you can adjust it to make it more narrow or more wide depending on how much space you need to cover. Happy ornamenting! Janelle

  143. emma gile on October 30, 2020 at 8:12 pm

the only smooth balls i could find were 2.9 inches, where do you find the smooth 3 inch balls locally? i actually live in Georgia.

  146. Helen Davis on December 25, 2020 at 9:32 pm

You make it look so easy to press your pins into the foam ball. I got mine from Hobby Lobby. My pins came from Walmart. Help me out. Is my problem the foam ball or the pins?

    • Janelle Taliercio on December 28, 2020 at 8:12 pm

Most likely it’s the balls. The ones you can buy at craft stores are usually harder to push pins through. We do sell great foam on our site if you’re interested. You can find that here: https://theornamentgirl.com/market/ Thank you and I hope that helps!

  147. Nancy Burgess on May 15, 2021 at 6:12 pm

Just finished my first ornament & enjoyed doing it. On the first side of the ball in Layer 3 you measure 7/8″ from center and on the second side in Layer 3 you measure 1 1/8″ from the center. Shouldn’t they be the same, either 7/8″ or 1 1/8″?

    • Janelle Taliercio on May 16, 2021 at 2:40 am

Hi, Nancy. We will double check the video, but here’s what Staci recommends: The first four pieces of Layer 3 are 7/8″ from the center, but the LAST four pieces of Layer 3 are 1-1/8″ from the center, and this is done on both halves. I hope this helps and if you need anything further, you’re most welcome to comment here or email us any time. https://ornamentgirls.com/contact/

Your videos are so wonderful I am 75 years old and sometimes reading directions just doesn’t help, So thank you, you’re a great teacher.

Wow, thank you so much for your sweet comment, Sharre! We’re so touched and I’m so happy the videos are helpful! I have passed along your sweet comment to Staci and the team! Happy ornamenting.

  149. Pat on September 14, 2022 at 7:36 pm

Would it be okay to iron the first fold on each piece?

    • Sarah Cinocco on September 15, 2022 at 4:23 pm

Hi Pat, you can, but it is not necessary. That fold doesn’t need to be crisp or exact for your ornament to come out beautiful.

  150. Mary kjersten on September 27, 2022 at 11:44 pm

Thank you for the informative video. What happens after you complete the ornament and you wished you had put the fabrics in different orders? The thought of taking out all the pins is very disheartening, and also , I assume, the ball would be damaged after all the holes? Is there a good way to audition fabrics prior to starting?

    • Sarah Cinocco on September 28, 2022 at 3:44 pm

I’m so sorry you don’t love the order your fabrics are in! If you are trying to catch that before you start, you can try using the coloring page in your pattern library (check the Basic Star workshop page). You can also try just folding your fabrics and layering them so you can get an idea of how it will look.

  151. Katherine Josephson on November 8, 2022 at 12:52 am

Your videos are excellent. I thought I was too late to get in as I see the original posts were in 2015.
You have beautiful hands and nails!
I just recently joined and was a bit confused because I was first sent video 1 and watched it. Then when I opened my emails, there were the directions for number 7. I was afraid I had missed receiving 2-6 first. Today I received #2. Just finished watching it. Your directions are explicit and very well done. Great speaking voice.

  152. Patty on December 20, 2022 at 11:52 pm

I’m one hour in and half way done. Is there a trick to pushing the straight pins in? My finger tips are sore. I’m finding a lot of resistance when I
push in. You make it look so easy. Towards the end of the first half I found a thimble which made it a little easier but it was cumbersome to use and handle the fabric at the same time. I really enjoy your video and the process but don’t think my finger tips will last pushing pins in.

    • Sarah Cinocco on December 21, 2022 at 4:44 pm

Hi Patty, I’m so sorry you are having trouble with the pins! Did you get your ball at a craft store? The foam balls that are sold at most craft stores are very hard and can give you sore fingers pretty quick. We do sell foam balls that are softer and much easier to push pins into. You can find them here: https://theornamentgirl.com/market/product-category/ornament-supplies/foam-shapes/

  153. Gillie on November 18, 2023 at 1:57 pm

I have made these before but not with such clear instructions. I am looking forward to making some more! Do you ship to UK?

    • Sarah Cinocco on November 18, 2023 at 10:09 pm

Hi Gillie, yes! We do ship to the UK. We hope enjoy working on your ornament!

  154. gail on December 15, 2023 at 12:31 am

Have you ever made these ornaments with ribbon instead of fabric? I remember seeing some made with ribbon and wondered how much different it be.

  155. Joan MORETZPERA on December 17, 2023 at 8:04 pm

My ornament didn’t come with the same fabric as used in video nor does the fabric match up with the directions. I ran out of the second layer of fabric and had enough of the first color to begin the first layer on the reverse side.
Needless to say I’m not thrilled with my purchase. Your videos are great but I lack enough resources to complete the ornament as directed.
    How can we resolve?
    Thank you

    • Sarah Cinocco on December 17, 2023 at 10:27 pm

      Hi Joan,
I have just sent you an email so we can help make this right for you.

Greetings from “Deep in the Heart of North Texas”! Wow, I just completed video #2, and it was amazing. Thank you for the clear, relaxed vocal presentation, and the video was one of the BEST I’ve seen. I am a retired 35-year teacher and can truthfully say your skills in relaying information are superb. These are going to be so helpful to a symmetrically challenged crafter. I hope to successfully complete many of your ornament patterns once I get the “hang” of this enticing craft. Thank you for the inspiring video and the time you take sharing your gift.
Happy Crafting from the North Texas Craftaholic! Ro McDonald
