Kimekomi ornaments are based on an ancient Japanese doll-making technique. I originally learned this technique from a book called Fast, Fun, and Fabulous Fabric Handballs, and then modified the idea to turn them into ornaments. (You can find that book right HERE if you're interested - it has a lot of awesome patterns that you can use for ideas in your ornaments.)

Below you'll find the downloadable PDF for the Moonlight Pattern.

I need a pattern for a 6 inch styrofoam ball? Where can I find one or resize the pattern for the 3 inch ball?

    • Sarah Cinocco on December 19, 2022 at 5:33 pm

Hi Mary, Kimekomi is very easy to change sizes. If you need to make your own template, you can try stretching a plastic bag over the ball and tracing your segment. Then I would add 3/8″ around your traced template to make a fabric cutting template. I hope that helps!

Hello Everyone at Ornament Girls. I am very happy to see the new kits you are now carrying. I just love going to your supply shop. I visit every day looking for
something new. Thanks for the moonlight fabric, I don’t have a printer, so these are great! Thanks Maureen.

I am new at this, but it has become my newest ‘passion. I plan to make at least one ornament for each of my children (5) and each of my grand children (14) as well as my great grand children (14 also). I’ll be busy for a while, and am looking forward to every minute of that time. Thank you for all your help. One thing, can you direct me to find the kits that I want to start with. Thanks again.

Hi Jean, we are so glad you’re excited to get started! We do sometimes have ornament kits available in our supply shop. If we do not, we still carry fabric and embellishments that will help you get started. You can find our supply shop here: https://theornamentgirl.com/market/
      Happy Ornament-ing!

Where do you find your fabric? Thanks

    • Janelle - Ornament Girls Support on April 3, 2021 at 7:06 pm

We recommend places like Joann’s and Hobby Lobby or you may find some online too. If you ever see an ornament you like, the fabrics we used on it, you’re welcome to ask us too and we’ll do our best to get the fabric names to you. You’re welcome to email us any time. https://ornamentgirls.com/contact/ Thanks so much! Have a wonderful day.

I’ve been trying for hours to download the pattern for Moonlight. The PDF worked but not the pattern itself. I’ve tried everything.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Corinne

    • Janelle - Ornament Girls Support on February 5, 2021 at 6:39 pm

Hi Corinne, I’m not positive what you mean by you can get the PDF to work but not the pattern. The PDF is the pattern. Are you saying you can’t get the PDF to actually download to your computer? Would you be able to email us for further assistance with this issue? https://ornamentgirls.com/contact/ Thanks!

  14. Donna Scruggs on February 15, 2019 at 5:57 pm

Where can I go to buy the kit for the Moonlight Ornament?

  15. Jane Faulstich on February 18, 2018 at 4:02 pm

Is the Moonlight the first kit? I really don’t like it.

    • StaciAnn Lowry on February 20, 2018 at 4:50 pm

Jane, this is not a kit. This is just a tutorial available here to anyone who may want to make it.
