The Money-Saver Tip Sheet

Ever see those No-Sew Ornament tutorials out there on YouTube and Pinterest... with no structure to follow, and wonky lines & pins showing all over the place?

They are everywhere… and yet those problems are so easily avoided!

The truth is, my very first ornaments looked like a 3rd grader made them.

To be fair, this was about 25 years ago, and I actually was only a few years older than a 3rd grader.

My mom had just been to a demonstration at the Ben Franklin craft store (remember those?), where she'd learned to make 'ribbon balls', and she came home with bags of supplies.

She, my sister, and I sat around for hours, having a grand ol' time... but our first ornaments were... well, a little old-fashioned and hokey looking. Picture lacey aprons and yodeling. (I'm just kidding.. we didn't wear lacey aprons.)

Our stars were not star-shaped.

Points were not pointy.

Foam was mysteriously showing through from under the fabric.

And there were these little specks of silver that were shimmering all over. Glitter? No, no... not glitter. Pinheads.

And yikes, look at those bows.

old-quilted-no-sew-ornaments

The thing with making these?... the struggle is REAL.

No-Sew Ornaments are made with dozens of tiny pieces of fabric, each of which are folded and pinned to a foam ball.

That's a lot of little pieces, and it can feel overwhelming to even START one... let alone start with no plan.

And yet, that's pretty much what you'll get from all the YouTube videos out there... no real method. Just some will-nilly pinning, and a hope that it will all come together halfway decent in the end.

And that's a lot of potential time, trouble, and cost to spend, only to end up with something you aren't very happy with.

Honestly, it's no wonder most people never even get through their first try at one before tossing it in the trash.

I can't even count the number of times someone has commented on one of my ornament photos, saying...

"That looks amazing, but there is no way I could ever make that."

or...

"I've tried making those before, and it was way too complicated."

But what if, with just a few simple tweaks, you could make an ornament that truly looks like a work of art?

With lines so perfect & beautiful that people are left wondering how in the world you did it? (and thinking you must have sewn it!)

There are 3 simple things that will make your ornaments look Perfectly Pinned:

  1. Straight lines and symmetry
  2. No pins or foam showing
  3. The first side matches the second side

These 3 things are SO easy to do, and yet not one single YouTube video puts any focus on them at all.

Perfectly Pinned is DIFFERENT.

staciannlowry-holding-quilted-ornaments

I mentioned above that I made my first ornament when I was young (about 15) and it wasn't exactly a work of art.

But making ornaments was the one hobby I stuck with throughout my entire life.

Even after I got married, I continued making them... but my hubby was a Private in the Marines (and I was a young mom), so we did not have lots of extra money for crafts.

And so, I kept up my hobby by figuring out ways to do things a little differently, to save money, and make my precious supply money stretch.

But all these little changes didn't just save me in supplies.. they made my ornaments look so much better!

For example, I started using smaller rectangles instead of larger squares (the way that most people teach) so that I wouldn't be doubling up my fabric (waste!) - and my ornaments looked so much less bulky and hokey.

Years later, I began selling them for a little extra Christmas money. It grew to a point where they were selling faster than I could make them, and both my husband and I were amazed.

But something else happened.

People started asking me HOW I was making them look so perfect. By this point, there were tutorials and videos popping up online. I directed people to those.

But over and over, people would send me emails saying they had tried making an ornament, but no matter what they did, no matter what tutorial they'd watched, they just couldn't get their ornaments to look like MINE.

They wanted my secret!

I started teaching online, and have now taught tens of thousands of ornamenters all around the world, and have had my work featured in multiple magazines and shows. I also create make-it-yourself kits, patterns, and custom ornament supplies for my thousands of monthly Ornament Girls Club members.

With Perfectly Pinned, you will...

make-quilted-no-sew-ornament-balls-pattern-tutorial

Learn the easy folding technique that ANYONE can do (especially if you’ve already watched all the YouTube videos out there showing the old, bulky way.)

Line up both halves perfectly with each other (even if you’ve tried before, and things ended up a little ‘wonky’)

Leave not a single pin showing… everyone will think your ornament is sewn!
Be able to ’see’ what fabrics will look good together, and which ones will not… even if you think you aren’t creative or artistic.
Know exactly how much fabric to buy, for however many ornaments you want to make (plus, how to use pre-cuts!)

Adjust the pattern to ANY sized foam ball you may want to use (or already have on hand)

Prep and cut your fabrics ahead of time, so when it’s time to sit down and create, you can simply get cozy in your favorite armchair and start pinning.

Save $ on fabric & pins with ‘The One Fold' (instead of wasting fabric and pins, and giving you a ‘bloated’ ornament in the process)... and even learn ways to repurpose unlikely materials you already have.

Make your first ornament in just a couple of hours.. and after practicing a couple times, you’ll be under an hour for each one (picture quickly creating lots of personalized Christmas gifts, or even making them to sell!)

Create a stunning work of art that will leave everyone wondering how in the world you made it.

Have Questions? I Have Answers!

Fathima's Studio_gold-hand-drawn-arrows-and-dividers-10

I want to try, but I’m intimidated. They look really complicated.

Don’t they? This is exactly why everyone will be so amazed when you show them your finished ornaments.

But by then, you’ll know the secret.. that they are WAY easier than they look. The entire ornament is literally made with one fold…. THE ‘One Fold’ I’ve been raving about. It is as simple as folding a piece of fabric, and pinning it to a foam ball. Then, repeat. (And, I’ll be showing you every fold, and every pin!)
Fathima's Studio_gold-hand-drawn-arrows-and-dividers-22

I’ve tried making these before and it looked like a 3rd grader made them. Will I really be able to get beautiful results?

My method for making these is simple but precise. If you follow the steps I've laid out for you (through very detailed photos and instructions), your ornament WILL be symmetrical, and it WILL be beautiful.

The lines will be straight like you see in my photos, and both halves will look like they are actually supposed to be on the same ornament.

Over and over, I am told by my customers and Ornament Girls, that they had not been happy with the ornaments they’d tried to make UNTIL they learned my methods. I have heard this so many hundreds of times that I am 100% confident you will feel the same.
Fathima's Studio_gold-hand-drawn-arrows-and-dividers-22

Exactly how will I be saving on pins and fabric?

The traditional way of making these uses squares, folded in half, before you’ve even gotten to the REAL fold that makes the actual pattern. This is a complete waste of fabric (fabric that you won’t even see in the end), not to mention it makes the finished ornament bulkier and bloated.

The Perfectly Pinned Technique also uses one less pin per piece of fabric. That might not sound like much, but when you consider that there are 56 pieces of fabric making up the pattern, it begins to add up quickly! That’s 56 less pins per ornament.. not to mention your ornament will weigh less, too.
Fathima's Studio_gold-hand-drawn-arrows-and-dividers-22

I don’t have tons of extra time. Will these take a long time to make?

The first one you make will probably take you a couple of hours. From there, it only gets faster. And, once you master the technique (which doesn’t take long!), it’ll become so quick and easy, you'll practically be able to make one in your sleep (or while watching tv).

And I am not just saying that. I can make one start to finish in about 20 minutes.
Fathima's Studio_gold-hand-drawn-arrows-and-dividers-22

I can't wait for you to see how beautiful your no-sew ornaments will be...

.. and, just how easy it is to make them perfectly.

Ornaments you will be so proud of, and that those around you will be absolutely stunned by.

Ornaments you can proudly give as gifts for Christmas, birthdays, graduations, weddings, Baby's First Christmas... (the possibilities are literally endless.)

Or even ornaments that you can sell! (You wouldn't believe how many of my Ornament Girls customers have started online businesses selling their ornaments.)
